Celebrating International Credit Union Day

Authored By: Community Focus FCU on 10/10/2024

Every year, on the third Thursday of October, credit unions worldwide celebrate International Credit Union Day (ICU Day). This special day offers an opportunity to recognize the contributions credit unions make to their members and communities, emphasizing the cooperative spirit at the heart of this financial movement. This year, we invite you to join Community Focus Federal Credit Union in celebrating ICU Day on Thursday, October 17.

International Credit Union Day was first celebrated in 1948, initiated by the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU). The day aims to raise awareness and understanding of credit unions, which are member-owned financial institutions that prioritize their members' needs over profits. The mission is to educate the public about the unique benefits credit unions offer, such as lower fees, better interest rates, and a commitment to community development.

For Community Focus Federal Credit Union (CFFCU), this day is about expressing gratitude to our members for their continued support. “Our members are the cornerstone of everything we do,” said Andrew Gregoire, CFFCU’s CEO and President. “Without them, we wouldn’t be able to offer competitive rates and a diverse range of products and services,” added Gregoire. CFFCU’s mission is to strengthen communities and create brighter financial futures, one member at a time.

This year, we have been able to:

  • Provide scholarships to deserving high school graduates
  • Support our community through sponsorships
  • Launch the "Meet the Need" program, which supports local nonprofit organizations
  • Volunteer at community events supporting causes such as:
    • Reducing food insecurity
    • Supporting foster children
    • Raising mental health awareness
    • Assisting homeless women and children

At Community Focus, we believe in "People helping people," and we are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate our commitment to our community with our members on this International Credit Union Day.
